NEW YORK (Herald de Paris) - Since first moving to New York I have waited anxiously for Yann Tiersen to come on tour. The French composer, mostly known for his beautiful scores to Amerlie and Goodbye Lenin, finally graced us with his presence at his Iriving Plaza show on Thursday. The eclectic Asobi Seksu opened to a packed venue, playing an energetic set, which got the crowd going. Yann, playing with a full band and looking like a grunge kid, took the stage with his electric guitar, his apparent new preferred instrument. The show was not what I, or apparently half the venue, expected; it was more rock driven than classically driven. For the most part he played electric guitar on mostly instrumental rock songs instead of his signature accordion and violin drenched compositions. It was an interesting new direction, but at the same time he should’ve balanced both styles to keep the waning crowd pleased and make it a little more exciting. He finally played an Amelie song, but it was virtually unrecognizable with the addition of a full band, much to my dismay.
