WASHINGTON, DC (Herald de Paris) — ¬†What do the White House Front Lawn, lettuces from NASA in space, the First Lady Michelle Obama and a sea of school children have in common- the White House Kitchen Garden. We covered the harvest in autumn, and now was the time for the seeds to be sown.
On a chilly, crystal clear spring day, with the White House looking resplendent in blooming blossoms, Michelle Obama literally ran down the front lawn to the garden, in a svelte silk green bomber jacket and jeans, ¬†to be greeted by throngs of school children. There were those who planted the first garden with her 8 years ago, and those school children who were new to planting it this year. Representatives from NASA also joined in as did Debra Eschmeyer the Executive Director of Let’s Move.
The First Lady, inspired by those who have joined her in supporting healthier kids and families through Let’s Move, will be sharing the stories of vegetable gardens throughout the year as part of the American Garden Tour. ¬†It is the last year Mrs. Obama gets to sow and plant the garden as First Lady and, Mrs. Obama in her opening remarks today, stressed ¬†that, “Hopefully, there will be other administrations who come in and they take up this project and continue to make this a part of the White House tradition.”
We thought it best that the photos do the talking on this joyous day.
