Illegals Make American-Born Latinos Look Bad

By Al Carlos Hernandez on September 18, 2011

Hate to say this, but something Kat Williams said a few weeks ago rings true for me: if you are not loyal to this country and your allegiance is to somewhere else, then get out and stay out…

It is clear, even from an Ivy-League-limousine-liberal point of view, that people from around the world come to our country because the “motherland” has failed them in some way. Most focus today is on Mexican immigration. The reason there is such a glaring problem in Mexican immigration is because Mexico is within walking distance and there is no reasonable policy to address that issue. However, recent statistics prove that there has been less illegal immigration over the last few years – and the border patrol has little to do with it. Mexico’s economy is getting better. Still, it is rare to hear an undocumented person talk about had badly America sucks. Maybe if bleeding heart enablers understood colloquial Spanish rather than Rosetta Stone, they would know that folks who come here want to work and participate in the “American Dream.” Freedom for this country has been won, and is currently maintained, on the backs of ethnic minority men and women who make the ultimate sacrifice out of love for a country that misunderstands them. Some of the proudest people I have ever seen were those who were participating in a San Franciscan citizen swearing in ceremony. Wonderful people, from almost every country in the world, willfully pledged allegiance to our flag. How many of our citizens are willing to do the same, given today’s attitude of entitlement? Okay. So I sound like a knee-jerk Republican (emphasis on “jerk”). However, I am equally proud to say that I have been given the title of Minister of Information Emeritus by Brown Beret Prime Minister Dr. David Sanchez – an honorary title that I wear with pride. This is what I experienced: during the late 60′s and early 70′s, courageous young Latinos (when Hispanics were not yet invented) gave it all to help stop the Viet Nam war and to make sure that colleges and universities afforded Latinos equal opportunities for education. Because of this overt and unabashed political action by the Brown Berets and the the Young Lords Party, Latinos have made many important strides over the last 30 years. Hey, there is a Latina on the Supreme Court!

Illegals, on one hand, make American-born Latinos look bad. On the other hand, everyone thinks that every Latino speaks Spanish and watches Univision. Spanish speaking foreign nationals have stolen access to the airwaves from those of us born here. And those of us born here, many of whom are talented artists who fought the hard battles to get those rights, are cut out of the action. Watch any Latino award show. No homegrown representation . . . ever. Artists like Willie Colon, Little Joe, The Bands Tierra and Malo have been systematically excluded by monolingual Spanish speaking nationals. Master TV directors Dennis Leoni and Jesus Trevino, both of whom can not get a network show, are leaving tens of millions with their stories untold while whack job tele novellas get top national ratings.

If you respect the country, then you have to respect the law. This is not to say that there is not selective enforcement. There is. Those who come to our country illegally know that they are breaking the law, but are willing to take the risk to feed their families. To grant blanket asylum for those who do not respect our laws sets a bad president. Seems to me that the simple solution is to keep the people who are willing to become loyal citizens. Send back people who have no respect for this country; a country that we love and have died to maintain. I wish there was a place we could send welfare recipients, convicts, senators, and congressmen who refuse to work. They should be drug tested every week. My Bible says, “If a man doesn’t work, neither should he eat…” Every welfare recipient, irrespective of race, should be required to pass the citizenship test. I am most certainly qualified to comment on this issue. As a child, my family grew up on welfare when the system worked for those who couldn’t. And also for those that wouldn’t.

I am so tired of hearing about how great other countries are. I’ve gotta say, they are not as great as this country I live in. People wishing to be somewhere else live in a world that doesn’t exist. Other countries fail. That is the reason these people are here. People need to channel that love of “country of origin” to this country – a country that is giving them a quality of life they could never have back “home.” We need to engender a new patriotism. America is like a baseball team with players from all over the place who have one goal: to win and to keep on winning. How are you going to play for a team wearing some other team’s jersey? United we stand. Divided we fall.

It is time for America to stop apologizing. We need to stand up and take back the dignity that we deserve as the greatest country on Earth. Acknowledge the fact that “we” are all the races which make up the American landscape: the bilingual, bicultural, bisexual, bi-ignorant…

America needs to get back to work. Kids need to study hard and get a good education. The days of entitlement are over. Only those who are willing to put in the time to do the work should be eligible to reap the fruits of the harvest. And when sojourners fondly remember the country they came from and sing its songs while eating its popular foods, I hope they never forget the reason they came here and why what they have now is so much better. Thank God for it.

On the real, if you really don’t like it here, there are buses that leave every hour. It would be so easy to do a fundraiser for one way tickets. I would be willing to chair such a committee.

Good job. I love this.

Excellent commentary. I may not agree with everything written and there is much to discuss about the subject.
You are 100% right, we are all on the same team and that is something that it is not stressed enough.
Great article.

Richard Yniguez September 18, 2011

Dr. Al!

I appreciate a lot of what you have laid down in your article but yes there are those who come here to take and not care about the country! As you pointed out they do it out of necessity. They break the law to survive and statistically they are least to take advantage of welfare or emergency services offered to all. They make their money send it home and when the time comes go back. I admire their tenacity, persistence and love of family, of country! If anything they make the American worker (Latino, Anglo, Black, etc..) look bad because they do what others won’t….work at anything! What we need is a good work program to offer those who are willing to come here and do the jobs our welfare recipients refuse to do! This country would fall to it’s knees without their support in the fields, in the streets, the deserts, etc… To endure what they did to get here is heartbreaking and they survived to work another day! They don’t make me look bad! It’s all those who do nothing to make this country work and play politics and think we’re too stupid to see through them and some of us are! I agree that the Spanish language networks have blurred our contributions to this great nation and media reflects that notion by the lack of Latinos in the main stream, the lack of stories that prove we are a part of the fabric of this nation. If an alien from another world landed here he would see that dinosaurs must be prominent citizens because they get more air time than Native Americans and Latinos! When it’s all said and done we need to support each other because we are family regardless of where we come from and help solve the problem! Hatred toward Latinos is growing in this country, hate crimes toward us and the illegal should not be tolerated, crimes against anyone should not be tolerated. So I suggest we focus on the positive and put the negative aside and help find a solution…a good start would be a worker program to benefit all in a legal manner. Your article is an open door for discussion and I hope others take advantage and chime in because you touched on so many issues of the day affecting our community! Thank you again Dr. Al and Herald de Paris for focusing on us…..

I would say that American-born “latinos” don’t need any help making themselves look bad. Is every racketeer in La Raza, Maldef, Mecha, Chicanos Por La Causa, and Lulac a foreign-born illegal alien? Mexicans vote 60-70% for open border candidates, and against anti-illegal immigration legislation. Is Illinois congressman Luis Gutierrez, Arizona congressman Raul Grijalva, and Caifornia state representative Gil Cedillo all Mexico-born illegals?

That said, I do sympathize with the 30% of Mexican U.S. citizens / legal residents who do not support any of this. THEY ARE THE VICTIMS.

When you leave your homeland and barge in illegally into another country
uninvited the least you can do is have some respect for the country you are taking advantage of.
That doesn’t seem to be the case with many Mexican Nationals.
My sister recently woke up, went for a drive to the local market and some Mexican moron placed a gigantic Mexican flag in his front yard to show
support for his Mexican soccer team!
Right ….not only do you enter this nation with your middle finger up in the air but then some classless Mexicans show what jerks they are by rubbing their stinking flag in our American faces. And they have the nerve to claim this land was stolen from them! Right Spain was not here before Mexico and of course forget that Native Americans were here before Spain. Mexicans—-by the way
WHERE ARE YOUR MEXICAN RESERVATIONS? You are right–Illegals make American born Latinos look bad.

Lee Modin September 18, 2011

It might be nice to encourage those on welfare to “work” for their money. Also to limit the number of babies they bring into the world to follow in their footsteps.

It is also not true the illegal immigrants will do “anything” because there have been stories in the paper when the unemployment was being continued, those “workers” refused to work….why? they were getting their unemployment money anyway and doing nothing. The farmers would go from one place to another and was told the same thing.

Illegals make american born latinos look bad? In my family your title is bogus because if my father did’t stay illegally in the US, us the american born latinos would not be here to begin with. I am thankfull to my illegal father for coming to the US and he doesn’t make me look bad. The ones that make us look bad are the one dealing drugs, gang banging and driving drunk, not the illegal hard worker. I think your brain got washed by fox news

Sophia September 18, 2011

Richard Yniguez , what you posted is pure La Raza propaganda. I’m sure people will get a good laugh by reading what you wrote.

APACHERAT September 18, 2011

After the Mexican – American War, the La Raza movement came in to being in California in the early 1850′s with the tendency was to move from particular allegiance toward redefining their loyalties in racial terms.
La Raza connoted racial, spiritual and blood ties with the Latin American people, particularly with Mexicans.
There were many La Raza organizations from the 1850′s to today. La Raza Mexicana, La Raza Hispano-Americano, La Raza Espanloa, and the infamous bigoted National Council of La Raza. But all La Raza organizations had one thing in common, they were and are Mexican nationalist. And their agenda of keeping alive the sense of Mexican patriotism and at the same time, hold on to the Mexican culture, language and reject the Anglo American language, customs, culture and refuse assimilation into the American society. Even supporting the segregation of the Mexican American community and that all Mexican Americans should live in barrios and not live along with Anglo Americans.

See how ignorant some Latinos are?
For your information Jo I’ll give you a little history lesson, the Spanish colonists had babies with Native Americans for centuries
and that is how the first Hispanics came about.
I am a half-breed Native American and my family spoke Spanish and Apache dialect.
We were the first Hispanics in the U.S. and we were Native to the area.
You illegal Mexicans are Johnny come laters. You don’t even bother to
wonder why we were called “pochos” by the jealous Mexicans?
They were jealous of our first rate life-styles.
The U.S. government called us Mexicans or Spanish because they didn’t want to pay out restitution for us half-breed American Natives.
If you are Hispanic and wonder why you have no relatives at all in Mexico
you are probably a half-breed Native American.
We are totally different from Mexicans. We even look different.

Immigration Propaganda – Fueled by Myopic Ignorance

Do you ever wonder why US politicians seldom if ever criticize the Mexican government for anything? You know, that infamously corrupt Government to the south that in 2006 started a drug war that has murdered close to 40,000 of its own citizens?

Why do we rarely hear Washington criticize the Mexican Government for its failure to adequately provide for its own Mexican citizens? How about for its shared responsibility for the immigration nightmare that we face in the US today?

There is a reason that half of the people in Mexico are in poverty. It is about greed. There is a reason that Washington coddles the Mexican government. It is about greed. There is a reason that the Mexican undocumented cross our border. It is about greed. There is a reason that US taxpayers foot the bill for this failed immigration. It is about greed. There is a reason that Washington turns a blind eye to the entire situation. It is about greed.

Oil, trade, NAFTA and cheap labor are real important to the rich on both sides of the fence. It is so important that those rich (who run both governments) could care less about the average citizens of either country, let alone the Mexican poor or undocumented who are here.

Those very rich have us average Americans fighting about immigration. It is by design that we are fighting. The rich are extremely happy when we fight. As long as we are at each other’s throats and blaming the symptom (the undocumented) and not the cause (their greed) nothing will ever improve. Actually that is with the exception of their profit margins.

Their immigration propaganda is fueled by ignorance. They depend upon our ignorance to continue the status quo. The status quo is the decades of continuous fighting of the immigration left and immigration right. All that fighting, and lo and behold, little in Washington is ever done about it.

This form of the raping of the US taxpayers is no different than failed mortgages, failed health care, and our failing economy. The rich profit from these failures, and we pay the price.

Actually it is much more insidious because it involves the greed of the elite of two nations. It involves the raping of the good citizens of both nations. Most insidious of all is that it involves the purposeful use of propaganda to coerce the darkest anger of our country’s victims against the equally victimized citizens of our good neighbors to the south.

They and their propaganda have built and militarized a border wall between the good people of both countries. It is a wall built to protect their greed and to fortify their lies. It is wall built to keep the good people of both countries from knowing and loving each other.

This is lie that the rich hide behind. This is what puts their cronies into office. This is just as threatening to our country’s humanity as any terrorist’s plot.

We could bring the bi – national immigration scam to a halt if we can overcome our own ignorance.

There’s an Old Saying…

One rotten apple, spoils the barrel.

Dr. Hernandez September 20, 2011

‘In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.’
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Richard, Americans built this nation, read this closely, by doing every single kind of job imaginable. They built skyscrapers, sewers, airports, bridges, highways, dams, office buildings, factories, ports, ships, airplanes, etc. They busted the sod, in the 1800′s in the midwest and worked like oxen to grow the food needed by a growing nation. Yes, my friend, they built this nation and created it from the ground up. There descendants will continue to do this but don’t want to work in a bottom line economy created by the illegal aliens used by greedy corporations and employers. Americans fought hard for unions, and rights and decency in the work place, way before most Mexicans even came to this country. You see, it’s the job and wage deprression created by illegal aliens that we object to, and so you cannot in any way justify our being eager to have American wind up having an economy or social system like Mexico’s, where I assume you fled from. Have a nice day.

Aaron Rodriguez October 19, 2011

Excellent all the way. I go to a predominantly white school in Texas and its hard fighting the stereotype that everyone has of my heritage. They assume I’m from Mexico and it infuriates me to no end. Well written!

Latino Immigrants making American Latinos look bad? It’s bad too work hard to make sure your family eats and survives? You are mad because Mexican Americans are the majority in this country so the networks cater to them? Really? American Latinos do a very good job of making themselves look bad all by themselves. Just look at the High School drop out rates and check how many American Latinos go to college and earn a degree. Also, check the crime rates and the prison population.

You then confuse pride of one origins and culture with not appreciating their new land and the opportunities it affords them? So, If a Puerto Rican sings “Preciosa” from Marc Anthony with family and friends, they are somehow ungrateful and somehow wearing a “different Jersey”.

All I hear from you is assumptions, and it’s sad. You assume that illegal immigrants are not grateful to this country. That they do no respect this country. That they “forget” the reasons they came here. Stop equating pride of one’s origins and culture as disrespect to the country that has afforded them a way of life they couldn’t achieve back at home. They are grateful. For they have children who are Americans now. And because of this country, they know their children has a real shot at life…for that, I am sure they are very grateful.

You just sound like many American-Latinos I know. They think because they are born in this nation, have full rights, they are better than those without.

Just thank your lucky stars you were born under those circumstances. Because I know the vast majority of my America-Latino friends do have the will power, the courage or the determination to do what immigrants do to come here. They would crumble under the pressures these people face.

Ron Sil August 12, 2012

I absolutly agree. Deport all illigel imigrants. If you don’t love it LEAVE IT. IF you are born here this is your country! You want the best for your country weather you are black, brown, white or anywhere in between. People always want to make this issue about race. Fact of the matter is we are just trying to do what is best for our country because we have to live here. And once illegals ruin the country they can always go back to wherever they came from and all born here have to brunt the burden and try to rebuild. A mass invasions of illegals is terrible for the American Latinos because you can not put any ground roots. People are always assuming you are a foreigner that just got here because….. well that all there is! Most illegals don’t even like this country. They always talk bad about it, wave their own flags and do not even bother assimilating. Besides it is AGAINST THE LAW!!! Nice way to come in to the country… already on a bad foot as a criminal
