Help the Zoo/Aquarium creatures of Japan

By JE Sved on March 15, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC (Herald de Paris) - Zoos and aquariums in the North part of Honshu Island have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami.   Therefore, the Herald de Paris et Cie., in cooperation with the World Alliance of Zoos and Aquariums, have established a donation programme, to ensure that the zoo and aquarium creatures of Northern Japan have proper food, shelter, and safe, healthy accommodations.

The beneficiary of this donation effort within Japan will be the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which is organizing assistance (food, generators, relocation of animals, transport).   With so much devastation, none of the coordinating organizations can undertake this effort alone.  Therefore, we are looking for donations internationally, so we can provide financial support to JAZA for this effort.  Thank You.

“Some affected zoos and aquariums are suffering from shortage of gas, fuel for heater, food and drinking water for both humans and animals. JAZA is considering concrete measures to send feeding stuff to Sendai Yagiyama Zoo. Fukushima Aquarium will move their sea mammals and birds to Kamogawa Sea World. Kamogawa will send some vehicles to Fukushima tomorrow. After completion of shipping, staff of Fukushima aquarium will get out of the facility, because they can nothing to do without any feeding stuff and fuel, in addition they have to be concerned about radiation from the atomic power plant. It is most important for us to secure the adequate means of transport. And we have started a drive to collect donations from the public.”
