Do Something 09: Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

By Jes Alexander on February 25, 2009

It becomes clearer with each passing day – people around the globe are sitting back, waiting.  Waiting for governments, politicians, and just someone in general to reverse the downward-spiraling economies.  Well guess what, people?  It isn’t going to happen.  If things are going to change, we are going to have to do it, ourselves.

Therefore, Herald de Paris et Cie., Colin Cowie Lifestyle, Traveling Diva Dot Com, and My Neighbors Network have joined together to sponsor, DO SOMETHING, 2009.

WASHINGTON, DC (Herald de Paris) - On Wednesday, March 4th, 2009, we’re asking you to DO SOMETHING – a random act of kindness, make someone smile, or simply change your routine.  We, as a species, can not allow ourselves to become complacent,  just waiting for someone to fix the world’s problems for us.  If you sit at home and watch your stock portfolio devalue, you shall be nothing but depressed.

On Wednesday, March 4th, we urge you to step-up:  Read to a children’s class, volunteer to feed the homeless, go spend an hour with your elderly shut-in neighbor, give a baguette to a hungry person, or even just offer your seat on the bus to someone else.  Heck, pay the bridge toll of the person in the car behind you.

Get the idea?

If you are a business owner have a sale, offer a discount, give away food, SHARE.  We all got into the mess out of greed,  it seems kind of stupid to keep that up, doesn’t it?

You see, we can go forth huddled in fear, hoping the problems resolve themselves, or we can go forth unafraid.  If you keep waiting for your respective governments to affect that real change, well baby, you are going to be waiting a long time because the truth is, the government is you.

PLEASE – next Wednesday, March 4th, 2009, please join us.  Perform that random act of kindness – I promise it will make you feel a lot better than sitting and waiting will.  Then, please tell us what you did – in words, photos, even video.  Inspire others with your own selfless acts.  But please, just DO SOMETHING.

Thank you.

Yes we each can make a difference. Now is the time to act, in small or large ways, to make this world a better place. Thanks for getting this movement started. I will be helping refugees and asylees in the San Francisco Bay Area feel that they have a place here and can make this home.
