Dame Judi Dench has dental treatment in full 1840s costume

Dame Judi Dench has revealed she had to make an emergency trip to the dentist in full period costume after damaging a tooth while filming BBC drama Cranford.
The Oscar-winning actress was working on a Christmas special of the programme when she lost a crown.
But as there was no time to change costume, she went to the dentist in Ealing, west London, while still in character as Miss Matty Jenkyns.
"I went into the waiting room and everyone kept looking at me," she said.
"When I got in to see the dentist, he said: ‘Are you busy working at the moment!’ – I was wearing a full wig with curls!" Dame Judi told the BBC.
The 74-year-old added she would not have liked to lived in the 1840s, when Cranford is set because of "all that washing!"
"Mind you, when I was little we didn’t have a dishwasher, we didn’t have a washing machine – we didn’t have any of those things, so we had a bit of that at the end of the 1930s," she said.</p
